Raising funds for a general assembly? That doesn´t seem to be too difficult for one of the world´s largest law student´s associations!
This was the mindset us five persons, comprising the sponsoring team, kicked-off their fund-raising in springtime. Our first act, however rather naively, was to put up a long list of potential donors. Imaginative and highly motivated we overcame initial communication problems and divided the workload into different areas of responsibility each of which was assigned to either one of us.
Soon, we could find our first sponsors at the JURACon in Frankfurt am Main. Our persistence paid off and we could secure some donations in kind. In acquiring yet different major law firms, corporate giants as well as individual business people, our upswing peaked. And so the inevitable happened: Our works cycles entered a recession. In the sultry summer months we found us confronted with innumerable rejections. Rather than achieving glory this taught us humility, so that, as time passed by and progress diminished, we invoked some displeasure at the Organisation Committee.
All the same our team remained calm. We processed the rejections as well as the critics of the Committee and, with the help of an experienced member, found alternatives to our problems. Looking back one might ask how such an intensive workload could have been managed. The answer is quite simple: We are ELSA!
